I have just bought the most divine new book. It open the doors on Frida Kahlo's wardrobe and is called 'Self-portrait in a Velvet Dress'.
An email relating to a comment I left on Gina Ferrari's blog helped me to know of this particular book originally, and I thought that I'd try and get it from my local library. I felt thwarted at every turn by library assistants who are so usually keen to help me with my sometimes unusual book requests, with the result being that I walked away quite disenchanted and very disappointed with the entire system on this occasion. On my return home I took a squizz at the Internet where I found the book at a reasonable price second-hand so placed my order.

I had recently watched the film about Frida's life, and it was just a really amazing story and let you see her from a very personal aspect. She was an extremely complicated person not only as if viewed from her surrealist art but also as a policital, sexual and sometimes tragic individual.

I love the unique style that Frida seems to have carved for herself, not only as an artist but from her unusual clothes sense. I've tentatively researched Mexican fashion as a result and rather enjoyed the writing on this particular website.
I think the following quote from Frida sums her work up entirely and so much better than I could even consider to try, "I didn't expect anything from my work but the satisfaction that I ganied from simply painting and expressing what I otherwise could not put into words".

Thanks for visiting ...

I'm so glad you enjoyed the book. I loved it too (and the film!)
Just seen the comment you left on Heloise's blog - that you couldn't view my blog - this is to let you know that it is OK now if you would like to pop over!

Oh my goodness, Frida Khalo is a huge love of mine, I adore her fashion sense and the beautiful tragedy of her love for Diego. This is so wierd as I was taking photo's of some of my postcard collection I have of her to talk about her on my blog and then I found you had done so! I NEED that book and will be placing my unusual library demand soon ;o)
